Not-for-profit groups looking for opportunities to raise much needed funds for the year have an opportunity to attend a free information session on the Community Lottery over coming weeks.
The People’s Choice Credit Union Community Lottery was initiated in 1984 and has been running successfully ever since. Since then, it has returned more than $8 million to not-for-profit charities, community groups, sporting clubs and school councils and in 2012 it is hoping to add another $2 million to that amount.
The Community Lottery is open to all not-for-profit groups and is a unique fund raising opportunity in that the groups involved incur no costs and receive 100% of the profit from each and every lottery ticket sold by them.
People’s Choice Managing Director, Peter Evers said he has been overwhelmed with the response the credit union has received from its initiative.
“Since we relaunched the Community Lottery in 2007, we have given back more than $6 million to the community in SA and the NT and we’re aiming to increase this amount in 2012,” he said.
“Being a credit union, we are very much community minded and we recognise the difficulty that many not-for-profit groups have in raising funds. We receive an abundance of requests from not-for-profit organisations seeking financial support each year and although we can’t always help them all, we do our best to assist them in reaching their goals for the year.
“The Community Lottery is an opportunity for them to raise substantial funds – without any risk or financial outlay, and some groups are some of the best in the country at getting involved in the Lottery and raising significant and much-needed funds.”
“With our business and media supporters, we meet all the costs including prizes (this year valued at more than $400,000), advertising, promotions, administration and ticket printing. There is absolutely no cost to participate. As long as participants are not-for-profit they are eligible to participate.”
