First South Australian to win..

..Financial planning student of the year!

05 Dec2018

Media Release

A South Australian has won the award for the country’s top financial planning student for the first time.

People’s Choice Credit Union Financial Planning Graduate Mary Hadgis was named University Student of the Year by the Financial Planning Association at its Professionals Congress held in Sydney last week.

Ms Hadgis said winning the award was a real lift given the few opportunities for South Australian financial planning graduates to stay in the state and receive the industry training they needed.

“This award is a reminder that I have been incredibly fortunate to be able to stay in my home state and work with an employer who offers the rare opportunity to intern and be mentored here,” she said.

“When I began, People’s Choice was the only Adelaide-based internship that specialised in Financial Planning and I didn’t want to move interstate. It’s now given me the opportunity to be mentored by some of the company’s best performing financial planners so I can develop my skills and credibility in the industry.

“I am very grateful for what I have been offered and consider myself blessed to be surrounded by like-minded people, who are customer-focused and share my passion for helping those in need. This is the beginning of my journey influencing the industry at a time when doors are opening for change and there is a growing need for financial planning with younger generations.”

The award recognises an exceptional student enrolled in either a Bachelor or Master’s Degree who has demonstrated outstanding commitment to their studies, future development and the financial planning industry.

People’s Choice Head of Financial Planning Shaun Bitter said Ms Hadgis’s national achievement was exceptional.

“Financial Planning is extremely competitive, so to have someone recognised on a national stage this early in their career is outstanding,” he said. “This is also a first for a South Australian student, so Mary’s enthusiasm for the industry and making a difference for member clients obviously stood out.

“Every business needs to identify talented people who are genuinely interested in helping people achieve their goals – especially in financial planning. This is a value-driven business. Working with new planners from the start of their career gives us a chance to ensure we are all focused on the one thing: achieving the best for members and clients.”
