For many of us, the New Year represents a fresh start, with the chance to reflect on the year that was, and plan our goals for the year ahead of us. With big goals comes a bit of planning, but now is a great time to take a minute, think about what matters to you, and plan out how to make your 2020 a 10 out of 10! Check out our ideas below to kick start your 2020.
Take that holiday!
Time flies by and it’s easy to push holiday plans to the side when we get busy. But if it’s been a while since you’ve been away, it might be time for a break! Whether that’s the big Euro trip you’ve always dreamed of or packing the car and getting away camping, a holiday is a great refresh! Planning and financing your holiday can take effort, but it could all be worth it!
Broaden your horizons with a new skill
Hobbies and interests are great in theory but can be hard to maintain as we get older and our priorities change. Finding a hobby that helps form a new skill can be really rewarding, so why not give it a go in 2020! Knowing where to start is often the hardest part, but thinking back to your childhood can help. What did you really enjoy doing as a kid? Taking that interest and turning it into an adult hobby. Were arts and crafts your thing? Try painting! Did you climb trees in your back yard? Maybe indoor rock climbing will be for you.
Consider your commute
Whether we like it or not, many of us spend hours every day commuting from home to work, study or other commitments, so why not make it comfortable? We can get stuck in our routine and not stop to consider how we can change it up. It may sound simple, but is there a new bus route that will get you there quicker? Have you scouted the bike paths in your area? Maybe it’s time to look into some new wheels? Either way, it’s a great idea to consider how to make the commute time better for you!
Put your health first
It may sound cliché, but the New Year is prime time to kick start your health goals. There are the go-to goals like taking up running or eating less sugar, but it’s worth considering breaking up your health goals into achievable chunks. For example if you want to be able to run 10kms, break it down into smaller running goals so you can celebrate the wins along the way.
Finish the project
Depending on your circumstances your unfinished projects may be big or small – from something as major as a home renovation to something small like planting your new herb garden. Either way, we usually have a handful of projects that are left unfinished. Now’s the time to get them done!
Make a money plan
Reaching your money goals can take hard work and dedication, but something as simple as making a 2020 money plan can help make it seem more achievable. This plan can include whatever your goals are; a good place to start is by including your savings budgets and goals, any debt that you may want to consolidate and looking into your direct debits to assess your level of outgoings. Accumulating direct debits can happen easily, so listing them out and making sure they’re all necessary and providing you with value (do you really need three streaming services?) can help you eliminate unnecessary spending, reaching your savings goals sooner.
